WHAT IS DECORATIVE & FOLK PAINTING. Decorative painting is a general term to encompass all forms of painting for decorative purpose. The term Folk Art originates from country folk, such as farmers, carpenters and cabinetmakers in sixteenth century Europe. They occupied their time during the long winter, by making, repairing and decorating with paintwork, simple pieces of furniture. Today it continues in the form of Cottage Industries. Decorative painting is often referred to as Tole Painting, which simply means painted tinware. Decorative styles such as stencilling, decoupage, trompe l'oeil, faux finish, gold leaf, distressing, marbling and antiquing all come under the umbrella of 'decorative painting'. |
